Press on Through the Poop

A couple of weeks ago I dealt with poop a lot…literally. My husband stepped through the lid of our septic tank so I had to reserve the septic company to pump it out. Then I called the concrete company to deliver a new lid. I had to prepare the tank so the lid could easily be removed. I dug around the five foot diameter opening. It was hard work and there were ants. My husband took it off by attaching a chain on the handle and the concrete people gently put a new, clean lid back over the smelly hole.  Easy-peezy!  I learned there is some yearly maintenance we should have been doing. Oh well. Live and learn, right?

I also cleaned the patio. In years past, it has not been such a chore, however, a flock of birds decided to roost in the tree above our six foot, glass dining table every night. You can imagine the mess. Sorry! No before and after pics on this one! I don’t post poop of any kind on my blog :). I wore a mask to sweep up the poop. I sweated. It was hard work. My husband and I even put a loud rodent deterrent in the tree, but the birds did not care. They are still there. My battle is not over! I hate to put any chairs under the patio. I will have to clean them again. It is an ongoing battle…kinda like life.

Do you have an ongoing battle? Do you try to clean up or change only to fail again? It is hard work. I’m not convinced God has folded arms and a raised brow waiting for us to overcome. I think He is more concerned that we don’t give up trying, that we press on. I think He wants us to keep on keeping on no matter the odds. I think God is our cheerleader, our water boy, our coach, our referee and our fan. He is for us no matter what. Even if we are loosing the earthly battle, God is for us. If we are looking towards heaven, He is pleased. If we are striving to be more and more like him every day, He is pleased.

Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” We have to realize we are living in the old order of things and all our struggles will be transformed into a new order full of praise and glory to God when Jesus returns.

While here on earth, we try as we might to clean up our broken, ugly self with a new and improved model. That will never happen here on this earth, but you can find peace in the brokenness and comfort in the messiness. You can learn to be hopeful while awaiting for our arrival in heaven.

So, since we know the future and Who ultimately wins...what side will you be on when the Day comes?
