Accompaniment to Video Blog #1: Intro to Searching

Thank you to everyone who watched my video blog on Facebook. I could not download the video to my blog this time. I am still learning! Your comments and encouragement was fantastic! Read here to get the gist of the video. Blessings!

Lately I have been searching about the need to searching that seems to be hard-wired in us. I read every verse in the Bible about searching, longing, desiring and yearning. I read scientific studies about searching. I read countless opinions about searching. I even listened to a lecture by Atheist, Andy Thompson, about why humans so readily seek God (or a higher form). After he described how we came from monkeys, he explained that our thinking continues to evolves beyond ourself and seeks something higher in the spiritual realm. To be fair, I only listed to 20 minutes of his 54 minute lecture, but he was making a great case, so far, about the need for Christ the Savior. Another fascinating angle I came across was Dean Hamer’s The God Gene: How Faith Is Hardwired Into Our Genes. He is a molecular biologist who claims he has found the one gene responsible for seeking God.

I also found seekers who found extraterrestrial genes in human DNA. I wonder what sample they had for a baseline—Oh yea! Area 51…I forgot! Alcohol can manipulate the DNA to make offspring predisposed to alcoholism. Genes can also explain some personality traits.

When we watch the news at night, we seek the shock factor as entertainment. Quickly, however, we seek a good news story to replace the wickedness and calamity..or I hope we do.

The point is… we seek for just about everything. Perfection, validation, thrill, knowledge, peace, answers, order, justice on and on.

I’ve been searching for the one magic bullet statement for why we seek. It is an indisputable fact that we are Seekers. And wether or not we know the why, we have a choice in the Who and what we seek.

Deuteronony 30:19 describes choices. The Bible is full of choices. I set before you a blessings or a curse.  Seek the Lord for he is not far from you. Seek him while he may be found.

There will come a day when the seeking will be over and the choice will be as well.

In the famous words of the Grail Knight, “Choose wisely, for while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you.” Remember the next line…”He choose poorly.” The life was sucked out of him until he was dust to dust.

Enjoy your search, my friend! But, choose wisely!

Blessings tip next time.
