How Would You Defend God?

If you were the character, Josh Wheaton, on the movie God’s Not Dead, how would you defend God? Ever thought about it? The Bible says to be prepared in season and out of season to give an answer for the hope you have in Jesus Christ. Josh said this, “Atheist say that no one can prove the existence of God and they’re right, but I say no one can disprove that God exists either.” (He said many things to ponder in the movie.) I’ll try my best to defend my belief and reliance on God. This is what I would say:

Hope. You either have it or you don’t. To hope means you want something to happen or be true and think that it could happen or be true (thanks Webster). Hope is a feeling filled with anticipation, filled with future events. It is the expectation that something promised will occur. You can have hope on two levels: earthly hope like anticipating a proposal or a raise or hoping you get a good grade on a test. There is also spiritual hope. This hope is blind. This hope will not be satisfied until we are deceased. This leads to my next point:

Faith. You either use it or you don’t. Romans 12:3 says everyone has a measure of faith God has given you. Do you use your faith so it grows or suppress it and it shrinks? Faith is being sure or what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. The ancients were commended for their faith. By faith we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, so that what was seen was not made out of what was visible. Faith is believing in the invisible when there is no scientific evidence. Faith is a feeling. Believe and feel it, disbelieve and never feel God's brushing up against you.

You have to decide if you are going to use your faith and hope or throw it away. If you are deciding to throw it away, you need to determine why you do that. What happened to you as a youngster to make you choose to NOT believe? (spoiler alert!) The professor in the movie finally admitted he believed in God at the end. He admitted he was mad a God for taking away his wife. He threw is hope and faith away...and he was a very miserable man. You?

So, how would you defend God?

Nature demands a designer--just the sheer complexity of all the systems of our universe that have to interact perfectly. The lack of evolution evidence (scientific) overwhelmingly leaves huge gaping holes in an unbelievable "theory". Human conscience demands God--without which there is no right and wrong even separate from all the great guidance of Scripture. (Psalm 8)

I like your defense! I also know people who believe wholeheartedly in evolution see no gaps. They have eyes but cannot see. They have ears but cannot hear. Thanks for your insight to the question! It is something we need to PLAN to say or we will never defend God because of fear. Thanks!!
