Read Romans 8:28-39
Theme: Salvation available to all by faith.
Title in NIV: Power of God's love.
Verse 28 is a promise for Christians. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him..." I like the KJV version that says "all things work together for good..." I even believe that bad things work for good and are a blessing if you accept it and look for how God is working. God can show his power in the bad situations if you allow Him to and don't get bitter and focus on the 'why me'.
Verse 29 talks about those God foreknew and predestined. I think these are the people God considers to be the remnant that will not ever follow other Gods. These people are to be conformed to the likeness of his Son. Those he predestined, he called and justified and glorified. Are you part of the remnant of God? I believe I am. I feel like I am called by God to use my talent (writing, teaching) for him. I believe I am justified because I accept that Jesus has died for me and his blood has covered my guilt and shame. I believe I will be glorified in heaven someday even though I don't understand how.
Verse 31 says "God is for us... He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all...[who] graciously gives us all things...and justifies those he has chosen." No one can separated us from the love of Christ....except us. Vs. 35 says even trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword cannot separate us from the love of Christ. (even those people who are sitting in front of the unemployment office wanting a job or begging for money a street corner are God's children and even that situation cannot separate them from God) The only way we can be separated is if we allow these things to get between us and God and hurt our relationship. When we take our focus off how God's power can be seen in a situation we have lost our focus on God.
Vs. 37 is my favorite verse, "in all these things we are more than conquerors." I love the promise the comes next..."neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the future, nor any powers, neither height or depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." If you believe that, you will have the deep, steadfast, unexplainable joy all the time and peace no matter what your circumstances.
Blessings to all and to all a good night. (just because I am posting at night)
