I Applaud This DAD!

It's Thursday, well, almost. I won't have time to post this tomorrow.

These verses came to mind when I started researching for this topic. The concept addresses how we treat others. If we really loved our fellow man, we would do things so differently in many areas of our life.

1)1 Corinthians 6:20, "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
2)Romans 12:10, "Honor one another above yourself."
3)Mark 12:31, "Love your neighbor as yourself.
4)Romans 12:3, "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought..."
5)Philippians 2:3, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves."
6)Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."
7) Romans 12:17, "Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody."
8) John 12:25, "The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."

I talked to a girl recently who mentioned her dad would not allow her to go to a swim party. I just want to encourage every young girl in this same situation: Someday you'll look back at your dad and say "Thank You, Dad". Here's why: Your dad apparently cares about, not just your well being, but the well being of others. You will find out in life that not many people do or they don't stand up for it or show it. There will be bikinis and skin showing and people won't even care that they are tempting the youth. And in a world when people don't care, you will thank your dad because at least he was thinking of other people in this situation. He was thinking of morality and temptation and his role in tempting others by allowing his daughter to go to a party. And no matter how much you are covered and appropriate, there will be people there who are not. There will be skin showing. Girls and guys play in the pool together and skin will be touching. For now you may think your dad is lame, but later as you grow older and have your own kids, I hope you look back and thank him for thinking about your future and the future of the people you're around. Apparently, your dad gets it! He does what the Bible says and he thinks of others above himself and is trying to instill that quality in you as well. So many girls think if a guy looks, it's their problem and they have no responsibility in their actions. However, the Bible says "Make up your mind not to put a stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way," Romans 14:13. We girls know guys are visual creatures. God made them that way. We tend to forget that when we do what we want and don't care what other's think. It is our responsibility to help others not fall into temptation. So, I applaud this dad for thinking in a more spiritual, self-less manner and less in a popular, worldly, "I-Have-the-Right-To..." manner. Way to go dad!

SO, based on these scriptures and this example, what could you do differently that is less of you and more about others? What could you do that shows others are more important than you?
