Opportunities Are Every Where

Romans 15:1-6
Theme: Christian relationships and attitudes.
Title in NIV: Building up others in the Lord.

Building up people in the Lord is so important these days, especially since the world around us is in chaos. People who are bent toward gloom and doom need extra encouragement and hope.

How can we build others up? First, I believe we need to pray for opportunities to be presented to us. The scripture says that the Word teaches us, therefore giving us endurance and encouragement leading to hope. We need to give someone a 'Word' of encouragement so it leads them to hope, too.

I missed a perfect opportunity that I regret. At Chik-fil-A a woman was reading a book entitled, "How To Understand Your Bible". Oh, how I should have said a word of encouragement to her, but I shrank. Forgive me.

Look for opportunities everywhere. This fast-paced world makes it hard to see opportunities, but get creative. Tell someone you like their Christian shirt or cross when they pass by. Smile. Take someone's grocery cart from them in the parking lot and say, "That is just what I needed." Pay for someones meal BEHIND you in a fast food line and tell the cashier to tell them to have a blessed day. Once I slipped a lady a note that read, "I am praying for you" because I overheard her very loud cell phone conversation in the dentist office.

Be bold and assertive. People all around us need encouragement.

(By the way: I got a terrible e-mail from 'Christian critics' about Chik-fil-A. So, the kids and I went to eat there and support their high standards and their work ethic. I love that they are closed on Sundays so the employees can go to church and be with their families.)

Ok, I encourage you to keep on with your blog. I know it is an effort of love and sometimes difficult to be wife, Mom, daughter, school supporter, "animal keeper", and all the other "hats", that you as a Christian ware. Don't worry if you get a little (or a lot) frayed around the edges--believe me, it is normal. Just step back, take a God given breath and relax. God and all of us are here for you.
