I Serve a Personal God

Read Titus 3:9-11

Title in NIV: Avoiding foolish controversies

God speaks to everyone individually. He may convict one person to do something and convict another person to do the opposite. Both are acceptable to the Lord. For example: one person is lead to give their contribution in the form of a check. Another person is lead to only give cash. Both are right, neither are wrong.

Controversy is born when a person thinks his way is right and tries to convert others to his way of thinking. He thinks, "God spoke to me and lead me to do this, it must be true for everyone else, too. They must not be listening to God, so I will help them hear what he is saying."

Philippians 2:12-14 says, "...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing..." God is a personal God. He does not deal with his children in the same way. My weaknesses are not your weaknesses. God has to speak to me specifically about getting rid of the sins in my life. God speaks to you specifically about what hinders you. If all the people were to do the same thing, such as give cash for contribution, that would be a law. Romans 7:6 says, "...released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit..."

Let us not get into unprofitable and useless arguments and quarrels with our brothers. Tell him/her that you have a personal relationship with God and he has spoken to you. Hopefully, a gentle conversation will help them realize God deals with all his children in different ways to get the results he wants.

Further Study:
Romans 8:3 "...live according to the Spirit."
Romans 10:4 "Christ is the end of the law..."
Romans 14:13-23 Do not be a stumbling block to a weaker brother

Good post...I think about a family and how it works. I suppose some parents would try to mold all their children exactly the same; probably not the wisest decision ever. All of them are usually different...thankfully. Heartbreaks occur when the children try to measure up to each other and can't...because they're different. But...love makes it work...God makes it work; we must learn His ways and accept all our differences and work together. Unity doesn't necessarily mean unison.
